Wote: Hundreds of Makueni residents received free medical checkups in an event organized by the Department of Health Services in partnership with M-pesa Foundation, Zuri Health, and Lions First Sight Eye Hospital. The free camp was held at Unoa Sports Ground in Wote town, where residents were screened for dental care, diabetes, high blood pressure, eye problems, cervical cancer, breast cancer, and HIV testing, among other health issues.

According to Kenya News Agency, Safaricom and M-pesa Foundation Programme Manager Sofia Onyango highlighted their commitment to transforming lives through healthcare provision, noting that this camp is the 33rd of its kind. Onyango emphasized their goal to reach all 47 counties in the country. She stated their focus on maternal and child health, ensuring mothers access well-equipped facilities and receive continuous care, especially those diagnosed with chronic illnesses.

The foundation further showed its support by donating 100 maternity pads to mothers who had given birth
at the Makueni County Referral Hospital. Onyango also mentioned that during such events, they encourage women to deliver in hospitals by providing necessary supplies.

Makueni Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili reiterated the government’s efforts to improve maternal health care, urging residents to utilize the available services in health facilities. Mulili emphasized the government’s commitment to equipping health centers with necessary facilities and employing skilled personnel to enhance service delivery, highlighting the introduction of high-tech medical equipment and qualified doctors.

Department of Health Services Executive Committee Member (CECM) Paul Musila announced plans to invest Sh17 million in upgrading Matulani Dispensary to a Health Centre. This development aims to facilitate easier access to medical services for residents, minimizing the need for long-distance travel.
