Huíla Government Celebrates MMA World Champions with Billboard Tribute


Lubango: The Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports of the southern province of Huíla is honoring athletes Maria Kitoco and Daniela Mandanji this week by displaying their images on billboards throughout the city of Lubango. The athletes recently won gold at the World Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Championship held in Georgia, United States of America, in September.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the athletes’ faces are prominently featured on the main advertising screen on Gabriel Kalof Avenue. This tribute is a recognition of their outstanding performance in the international championship. The governor of Huíla expressed that the athletes are a “source of pride” and have made a significant contribution to the history of national sports.

The message from the government highlights the achievements of Kitoco and Mandanji as a testament to the strength, discipline, and dedication of Huíla’s youth. It emphasizes how their success has elevated the name of the province and Angola in the international MMA c
ommunity. The provincial government, through the Huíla Youth and Sports Office, commended the champions as “warriors” who have become national icons and a source of inspiration for young people across Angola.

Maria Kitoco claimed her second world championship title by defeating Kazakhstani athlete Mashirap through a technical knockout in the 74.8 kg category. Daniela Mandanji secured her gold medal by overcoming Ukrainian athlete Yana Shelemba in the up to 61.2 kg category.
