NAIROBI: Huawei Kenya conducted its second ICT Competition roadshow at Kenyatta University, aiming to engage more than 7,000 students in the 2024-2025 competition cycle. This event is part of a broader initiative to encourage participation from Kenyan universities and technical colleges, offering a platform for students to demonstrate their technological skills and innovative solutions.

According to Kenya News Agency, the roadshow is an integral part of Huawei’s efforts to recruit bright minds across the nation. Michael Kamau, Partnerships and Corporate Affairs Manager and Head of Huawei ICT Academy in Kenya, emphasized the significance of the competition in developing Kenya’s ICT landscape. Kamau stated that the competition provides students with an opportunity to gain exposure to the latest technologies while addressing real-world challenges, highlighting Huawei’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of tech leaders.

The ICT Competition is one of Huawei’s major talent cultivation programs, focusing
on advancing ICT skills, promoting innovation, and reducing the digital skills gap in Kenya. Over the years, the competition has seen significant growth in participation, with students gaining valuable experience in areas such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and network security.

During the roadshow at Kenyatta University, the Huawei team engaged with students through hands-on demonstrations and guided them on the registration process for the competition. The event drew hundreds of participants, eager to learn about the opportunities the competition presents. Guest speakers from Huawei Kenya, university faculty, and past competition participants shared insights on how the platform has positively impacted their careers.

Participants have the chance to represent Kenya at global finals, connect with industry experts, and secure internships or job placements with Huawei or other leading ICT firms. National winners also receive prizes, including certificates and gadgets, further motivating students
to participate in this prestigious competition.
