Huawei Advances Biodiversity Conservation in Austrian National Park

VIENNA — At a special event on Tuesday, Chinese technology leader Huawei demonstrated its significant role in supporting biodiversity conservation efforts at Austria’s Neusiedler See-Seewinkel National Park, utilizing advanced technology to tackle the challenges posed by climate change.

According to Namibia Press Agency, since 2021, Huawei has collaborated with the University of Vienna and the park management to monitor and research the park’s biodiversity. This partnership employs acoustic devices and artificial intelligence to observe the park’s reed belt and wildlife, providing critical data that aids ecological studies. These efforts are part of Huawei’s TECH4ALL initiative, aimed at leveraging technology to enhance inclusivity and sustainability worldwide.

Tony Jin, Huawei’s Executive Vice President for Europe, marked the fifth anniversary of TECH4ALL at the event, highlighting the company’s dedication to environmental projects in Austria, which he described as pivotal in their global conservation efforts. “Our commitment extends to combating climate change, protecting endangered species, and bolstering the resilience of fragile ecosystems,” Jin stated.

Former Austrian Chancellor Christian Kern commended Huawei’s contributions, emphasizing the blend of cutting-edge technology and commitment to sustainability as key to addressing environmental challenges. “Austria is proud to host this innovative effort that marries technology with our commitment to combat climate change and safeguard biodiversity,” Kern remarked.

The event also featured presentations from researchers at the Neusiedler See-Seewinkel National Park and the University of Vienna, who shared recent findings that could inform future conservation strategies. Huawei’s TECH4ALL projects span over 50 nature reserves across 20 countries, underscoring its role in global environmental protection efforts.
