Houet: The President of the Special Delegation (PDS) of the municipality of Bobo-Dioulasso, Laurent Koutoukou Kontogom, presided over a press conference on Friday, July 10, 2026, at City Hall, marking the official launch of the 2nd edition of the "Municipal Youth Cup." This sporting initiative aims to provide a platform for young people to express themselves while strengthening the bonds of solidarity, fraternity, and social cohesion within the city of Sya.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the municipal authorities intend to boost the practice of disciplines such as football, basketball, handball, and p©tanque, in order to make them true vectors of unity and intergenerational integration.
Comrade Laurent Kontogom clarified the vision of the municipal authorities regarding this tournament. "Our role is to create the framework. Seizing the opportunity to discover talent and recruit is the responsibility of the football clubs. We didn't want to go so far as to scout the talents ourselves because the clubs are structured, the training centers are structured," he stated.
For basketball technical director Amadou Ba, this event is a major opportunity for athletes in the region. "These tournaments give us the opportunity to have more competition," he said.
For his part, the President of the Houet handball district (Zone D), Issaka Samadoulougou, reassured everyone of the technical staff's commitment. "We will do our best to successfully complete this competition and find ways to ensure the organizers continue to support us," he stated.
P©tanque will also make a notable appearance in this edition, bringing an inclusive dimension to the tournament. The district p©tanque secretary general, Drissa Djiri, defended the unique nature of his sport. "After this edition, you will see that p©tanque deserves its place among the next generation. Unlike football and handball, p©tanque is not just a sport, it is a leisure activity. But a leisure activity that brings together not only young people, but also older people who are no longer working," he explained.
The overall competition schedule was officially unveiled at this event. The tournament will kick off with basketball from July 20th to 26th, 2026, followed by the football competition on July 25th, 2026. Handball will take over from August 9th, 2026, while the date for the p©tanque competition is yet to be determined.
The organizers are now inviting all the people of Bobo-Dioulasso to mobilize massively around the different fields to celebrate fraternity through sport.
