The documentary film “Mathieu Kérékou: Testimonies of the Burkinabè on the chameleon of the times…”, was screened on Saturday March 11, 2023 at the Yéguéré plateau in Bobo-Dioulasso. The 26-minute work is by Beninese, Germain Akodjénou Zinzou, tutor in mathematics and physical sciences, self-taught and passionate about cinema living in Burkina Faso since 1990. This documentary film was screened on the occasion of the mini-FESPACO held in Bobo-Dioulasso from March 6 to 12, 2023 in Bobo-Dioulasso. Germain Akodjénou Zinzou said that the idea of ??making this documentary film germinated during the popular uprising of 2014 when the people demanded the departure of the former president, Blaise Compaoré. ‘I said to myself that it is the repetition of the history of Benin where the people demanded the departure of Kérékou’, he underlined. According to Mr. Zinzou, the particularity of this film is that it is Burkinabè and “not the least” who testified to the greatness of the man and not the Beninese. ‘From Colonel Djerma Mamadou, former Grand Chancellor of National Orders, to Armand Tall, retired surveyor, via Jérémie Boureima Sigué, founder of the newspaper Le Pays, and Mahamoudou Ouédraogo, former Minister of Culture, all evoke the greatness of spirit of General Mathieu Kérékou at the head of Benin”, he argued. The director was delighted that it was a look seen from the outside that speaks of this “greatness” of the one who, at a given moment in the history of Benin, decided to leave power in the face of protest from the people. before that same people bring him to power again.
