Tai po: Orange flames engulfed Wang Fuk Court, a residential complex in Tai Po, Hong Kong, as a major fire raged from Wednesday afternoon. Firefighters, weighed down by water and soot, persisted in their efforts to control the blaze.

According to Namibia Press Agency, John Lee, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, emphasized the relentless nature of the rescue efforts despite challenging conditions. The fire's intensity necessitated a rotation system for firefighters, allowing them two days of rest after 24 hours on the frontlines.

At a press conference on Friday morning, Lam Cheuk-ho from the Fire Services Department expressed sorrow over the loss of Ho Wai-ho, a firefighter who was found unconscious during the blaze. By Friday morning, the fire had resulted in 94 fatalities, including Ho, who was soon to be married. Additionally, 76 individuals sustained injuries, with 11 firefighters receiving treatment for various injuries.

The extensive operation saw the deployment of over 200 fire engines, around 100 ambulances, and more than 1,200 fire and ambulance personnel. Drones monitored the situation, providing critical data to ground command.

On Thursday night, Xinhua reporters observed flames reigniting on the upper floors, prompting firefighters to adjust their tactics. At an overnight press conference, Chan Derek Armstrong, deputy director of fire services, reported ongoing efforts to cool hotspots.

Firefighters carried out meticulous searches of each floor and unit, equipped with demolition tools and oxygen tanks. Wong Ka-wing, another deputy director, reiterated the commitment to leaving no unit unchecked, despite unanswered distress calls.

A poignant message from the deceased firefighter's girlfriend was shared on social media, expressing her deep loss and longing.

As day broke, the search efforts persisted, with Wong Ka-wing affirming the determination to continue searching every unit thoroughly.
