Home Boys FC Triumphs in Omaheke Charity Cup Victory

Windhoek: Home Boys FC from Gobabis emerged victorious at the Omaheke Charity Cup held at the Legare Sports Complex over the weekend. The event was organized to raise funds for the Khoen Di Soup kitchen and saw participation from 20 football teams across the nation and one from Botswana.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Home Boys FC made their way to the final by defeating Skoon Boys FC from Botswana with a convincing 4-1 victory in the tournament's first semifinal. Meanwhile, Tuk-Tuk FC secured their place in the final by overcoming Tough Guys 3-1 on penalties after a goalless draw in regulation time. In the final showdown, Home Boys FC clinched the Omaheke Charity Cup by defeating Tuk-Tuk FC 4-2 on penalties after a one-all tie.

As champions, Home Boys FC received a trophy, N.dollars 20,000 in cash, and 20 gold medals. Tuk-Tuk FC, as runners-up, took home N.dollars 15,000 and 20 silver medals. The semi-finalists, Skoon Boys FC and Tough Guys, were awarded N.dollars 5,000 each. Tuk-Tuk FC players Gomes Goagoseb and Len Leon were recognized for their performances, earning trophies and N.dollars 500 cash as the top goalscorer and goalkeeper of the competition, respectively.

Stima Patire, the head coach of Home Boys FC, expressed his excitement over the victory, attributing the success to his players' efforts. "Credit goes to my players for their efforts as this was a tough competition. This is another addition to our cabinet, and we deserve it," Patire stated. He also mentioned that the team regrouped after a previous loss in the Okongo tournament against Ohangwena NamPol, highlighting the significance of this win.

Chazlain Goagoseb, the competition organizer, conveyed his satisfaction with the tournament's atmosphere, emphasizing the event's purpose of generating funds to support children and the elderly in Kanaan A settlement. He extended his gratitude to the participating teams, football fans, and the business community for their support, noting, "Together, we can curb hunger in our society."
