Homa Bay County Seeks UK Partnerships for Agricultural and Health Sector Development

HOMA BAY - In anticipation of the upcoming second County International Investment Conference (HOBIIC), Homa Bay County is actively pursuing potential investment partnerships with the United Kingdom, focusing on the agriculture and health sectors. These efforts aim to harness investments in critical areas such as horticulture, aquaculture, cotton, and edible oils to bolster food security and address pressing local challenges.

According to Kenya News Agency, who addressed the media alongside UK High Commissioner to Kenya Neil Wigan, the collaboration with the UK is pivotal for the county's strategy to enhance its socio-economic landscape. Wanga emphasized the importance of external partnerships in complementing public sector efforts to tackle the complex issues facing the county's residents. She highlighted the county's pursuit of a significant investment partnership with the United Kingdom's largest agribusiness firm, United Green Group, as a testament to this strategic direction.

In addition to agriculture, the governor shed light on the critical collaboration between Homa Bay and the UK in improving reproductive health outcomes through Population Services Kenya (PSK). With Homa Bay County grappling with high rates of teenage pregnancy and maternal mortality, these health initiatives are deemed crucial for community well-being.

UK High Commissioner Neil Wigan reaffirmed the UK's commitment to supporting Homa Bay's developmental ambitions by providing technical assistance and promoting the county as a viable destination for British investments. Wigan's promise to send a delegation to the HOBIIC underscores the UK's interest in fostering bilateral ties that could unlock new opportunities in Homa Bay, especially within the identified key value chains.

This proactive approach by Homa Bay County to attract international investments and partnerships highlights a forward-looking strategy aimed at sustainable development and improved quality of life for its residents.
