His Majesty Naonfa 2 Honors Ancestors with Bull Offering in Dano

Dano: The 2nd edition of the Customs and Traditions Day (JCT) was celebrated in Dano through ancestor worship led by canton chief Naonfa 2.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the commemoration was marked by two main events. In the morning, canton chief Naonfa 2 and his notables organized rituals for ancestral worship on the sacred hill opposite the national police station in Dano. The rituals began with the offering of a chicken, which was sacrificed as part of the ceremonies. The final position of the chicken, on its back with both legs in the air, was interpreted by the land chief as a sign that the ancestors accepted the offerings.

With this acceptance, His Majesty Naonfa II proceeded to offer a bull to the ancestors, seeking their blessings for security, health, and prosperity for the people of Ioba province. He prayed for peace and social cohesion across Burkina Faso and the full reconquest of the national territory. He also expressed gratitude to the President of Faso for dedicating a day to traditional religion. This year, Naonfa 2 invited students to participate in the rituals, emphasizing the importance of cultural heritage and customary rites for the next generation.

The series of individual sacrifices followed, where attendees made their wishes to the ancestors, hoping for their chickens to be accepted. Some participants came to express their gratitude for the fulfillment of their requests from the previous year.

An official ceremony is planned for the early evening, with local authorities and other dignitaries invited. Guests will be treated to a meal featuring "sawal¨," a local couscous made from corn and sorghum, served under the mango trees. The evening is expected to conclude with a popular celebration.
