STOCKHOLM — Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer has announced that the terrorist threat level in Sweden remains elevated, despite changes in the nature of the threats the country faces. At a recent press conference, Strömmer emphasized that Sweden is no longer a central hub for extremist propaganda but still faces significant risks.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Sweden's internal security is threatened by three primary factors: terrorism and violent extremism, hostile state actors, and serious criminal threats to societal stability. Fredrik Hallström, the operational head of the Swedish Security Police (Sepo), added that conflicts in the Middle East could extend their impact to Western nations, including Sweden, potentially making it a staging ground for international conflicts. The country's terrorist threat level was increased last summer to four out of a possible five points. This escalation followed pronouncements by terrorist organizations like the Islamic State* and Al-Qaeda**, which declared Sweden a priority target after incidents involving the burning of the Koran.
