High density operations yields success in crime focus areas

Operation Shanela high density operations conducted in the Province yielded success when 673 suspects were arrested for numerous crimes from Thursday, 7 September to Sunday, 10 September 2023.



85 arrests were made for drug related offences, 13 for dealing in liquor, 27 for driving under the influence of liquor, 15 for possession of firearms and ammunition and 31 were undocumented persons, who were handed over to the Department of Home Affairs for further processing.



A further 176 arrests were made for serious and violent crimes that included 8 murders, 5 for armed robbery, 147 for assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm (GBH) and 16 for Gender Based Violence (GBV). During the operations, 8 firearms with ammunition were confiscated. All suspects will make their respective court appearances in various courts this week.



The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lt Gen Sello Kwena, said the police will continue to work hard to ensure that the province is safe for all inhabitants.
