High-density operation used to stamp the authority of the State

A number of suspects were arrested for various crimes over the weekend during High Density Operation conducted in all three Districts in the province (Ehlanzeni, Gert Sibande, and Nkangala).

The operation led by the Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela was joined by various stakeholders within the security cluster. The sting operation was also graced by the presence the Honourable Mayor of the Steve Tshwete Municipality, Mhlonishwa Masilela, the MMC for Public Safety in the Steve Tshwete Municipality, Mr Tsepo Nkoane, Traditional leaders, CPF members as well as members of the Taxi Industry.

During the operation one suspects was arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm with two live rounds in Marite near Hazyview in Bushbuckridge.

A total number of 528 suspects were arrested during the High Density Operation and amongst them five were arrested on murder charges, four on business robbery charges, whilst others were nabbed on various charges, including attempted murder, armed robbery, burglary residential, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, illegal possession of a firearm, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition, possession and dealing in dagga, possession of dangerous weapons, contravention of the Immigration Act of South Africa, failure to keep prescribed records of second hand dealers, possession of illicit cigarettes, and possession of precious metals which were also confiscated during the operation. A total of 3595 persons were searched, 1406 vehicles searched, and fines were issued by the law enforcement agencies including fines issued to various shops for selling expired goods. Three liquor outlets were closed down for non-compliance.

Two vehicles were confiscated for further investigation, one motor bike was recovered and two toy guns were confiscated in Middleburg. Three firearms were also confiscated during the operation.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela indicated that the operation will also zoom into those areas that appear to be problematic in the province and the public should just be patient with law enforcement agencies as hype of activities by the astute members will be expected regularly. The General further appreciated the dedication shown by all stakeholders who worked tirelessly as a team to reinforce the authority of the state in the province so as to eliminate.
