High Council of National Defense Sets Strategic Guidelines After April 25 Attacks

Bamako: General Assimi GOTA, the President of the Transition and Head of State, chaired a session of the High Council of National Defense to assess the current security situation across the nation. The meeting focused on the coordinated attacks of April 25, 2026, which targeted several locations across the country.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the session was attended by the Prime Minister, the Minister of Security and Civil Protection, and other government officials, including the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces. Following the meeting, Major General Daoud Aly Mohammedine, the Minister of Security and Civil Protection, addressed the press. He conveyed condolences to the victims of the April 25 attacks and paid tribute to Lieutenant General Sadio Camara, the Minister of State, Minister of Defense and Veterans Affairs, who died in service.

The Minister highlighted that the attacks were conducted by armed terrorist groups with well-defined strategic objectives. Despite this, the Armed and Security Forces were able to inflict significant losses on the attackers, forcing them to retreat. The High Council for National Defence conducted an in-depth analysis of the situation, leading General GOTA to establish sixteen strategic guidelines to bolster national defense and security.

Major General Mohammedine reassured the public that the security situation remains stable throughout the country. He also praised the patriotic efforts of the population and their vital role in providing operational intelligence.
