High Commissioner Wend Nere Wilfried Tougma Engages Soum Province Residents in Accountability Tours

Kongoussi: The High Commissioner of the Soum province, Wend Nere Wilfried Tougma, engaged with residents in Kongoussi on Saturday as part of his ongoing accountability tours. This meeting follows similar engagements in Kaya and Ouagadougou, aimed at fostering transparency and open dialogue with the local populace.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the gathering mobilized key community figures and residents of Soum, providing a platform for discussion in an environment characterized by transparency. High Commissioner Tougma reaffirmed his commitment to accountability, emphasizing the importance of continuous communication with the public in managing public affairs.

During the meeting, Tougma delivered a comprehensive review of the province's recent initiatives. He highlighted local governance improvements through initiatives like the "D?m? sira", provincial consultation frameworks, and national days of patriotic engagement. Efforts to regularize citizens' administrative documents were also discussed.

In the health sector, the High Commissioner reported enhancements in medical staffing, particularly in Djibo, Kelbo, and Arbinda, alongside efforts to organize surgical operations and medical evacuations. The education sector, despite security challenges, showed satisfactory academic results, with activities supporting education continuity such as the reopening of Djibo municipal high school.

Agriculturally, progress was noted through modernized practices and the acquisition of motorized equipment, facilitated by improved security measures. In sports and culture, community dynamics were revitalized with large-scale events like the High Commissioner's Cup.

Addressing security, Tougma honored victims of the May 11, 2025 attack and assured residents about the new security deployments, including the Rapid Intervention Battalions in Djibo and Arbinda, working towards territorial stability.

Looking forward, strategic priorities include advocating for local employment through civil service competitions, reopening financial structures, and supporting educational pursuits. Infrastructure projects like the rehabilitation of the Djibo dam and construction of new dams in Kelbo and Arbinda were also highlighted.
