Namentenga: In an effort to bolster community resilience and support local defense forces, Adama Conseiga, the High Commissioner of Namentenga Province, led a delegation to Dargo. The visit, conducted in collaboration with military forces, provincial directors, and association leaders, focused on fostering social cohesion and recognizing the contributions of security personnel.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the outing featured a variety of social cohesion activities, including traditional games such as war©, p©tanque, ludo, and checkers. A popular cross event, an aerobics session, and a football match between civilians and military personnel were also organized. These activities were coupled with awareness sessions on appropriate conduct during security crises, underscoring the importance of unity in challenging times.

The delegation received an enthusiastic welcome from the local population, who had been resettled in March 2024 following security challenges. Saidou Kafando, the prefect and president of the special delegation of Dargo, highlighted the progress made since the resettlement, including the construction of new boreholes and the rehabilitation of existing ones, as well as improvements to the health and social promotion center in Dargo.

Kafando also expressed gratitude to the military forces, particularly lauding the Cheetah unit for its dynamic efforts. However, he pointed out ongoing concerns from the community regarding the mobile telephone network, the need for food support, and the resettlement of other remaining villages.

High Commissioner Conseiga addressed the gathering, commending the residents for their resilience and commitment to social cohesion. “We have decided to come here today, December 31, 2024, so that together we can celebrate New Year’s Eve and the New Year 2025. I congratulate you on your resilience and social cohesion that you are demonstrating,” he stated. Conseiga encouraged the community to engage in activities that promote unity and living together.

The rural commune of Dargo, located 30 kilometers east of Boulsa, has been a focal point for resettlement and community strengthening efforts since March 2024. The initiative led by the High Commissioner underscores the ongoing commitment to supporting local populations in the face of security challenges.
