High Commissioner Jean Baptiste Béogo Leads Crucial Meeting on Security and Services in Gnagna

BOGANDÉ: High Commissioner Jean Baptiste Béogo conducted a strategic consultation meeting with the constituted bodies of Gnagna on July 26, 2024, focusing on security challenges and service continuity amidst increasing terrorist threats.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the meeting convened in the High Commissioner’s meeting room in Bogandé, where representatives from technical services and associative structures of Gnagna participated. The gathering aimed to review the administrative operations and service delivery within the province, despite the ongoing security challenges. Key achievements noted during the session included the reopening of two secondary schools in Bilanga and Manni, which had been closed in previous years due to security concerns. These educational strides coincided with improved examination success rates for the CEP, BEPC, and Baccalaureate during the 2023-2024 school year.

In the health sector, officials reopened several Health and Social Promotion Centers (CSPS) in city centers to bolster healthcare provision following the displacement of populations due to security instability. However, the meeting highlighted substantial infrastructural and economic challenges exacerbated by persistent terrorist attacks. These challenges have restricted movement, reduced agricultural production, and devastated local economies, with many residents lacking reliable sources of income.

Infrastructure concerns were also addressed, with reports of deteriorating road conditions threatening to isolate communities, particularly along the critical Bogandé-Manni route via Thion. The local authorities are seeking urgent interventions to prevent further disrepair and maintain essential connectivity.

The high commissioner praised the resilience of the Gnagna bodies and reiterated support to the defense forces and volunteers combating the terror threats. The assembled members urged for more frequent meetings to better coordinate efforts across different sectors to enhance the province’s stability and development.
