Hezbollah Official Killed in Israeli Raid in Southeastern Lebanon

Mays al-Jabal, Lebanon—A Hezbollah official was killed and another member severely injured during an Israeli raid on Wednesday afternoon in the village of Mays al-Jabal in southeastern Lebanon.

According to Lebanese sources who spoke to Xinhua, the incident occurred when an Israeli drone struck a motorcycle with two air-to-ground missiles, resulting in the death of a Hezbollah military cadre and injuries to his companion. Local military sources, requesting anonymity, detailed the drone’s involvement in the attack. Following the incident, civil defense teams were reported to be facilitating the transfer of the casualties to a government hospital.

The Lebanese Public Health Ministry’s Emergency Operations Center confirmed the incident and the casualties. Additional Israeli airstrikes targeted the municipality of Yater and the villages of Maroun al-Ras and Rachaya al Foukhar in the eastern sector of the border area in southern Lebanon, as reported by the National News Agency.

Hezbollah, in response, claimed it had targeted Israeli sites including Ruwaisat Al-Qarn, Al-Alam, and Al-Raheb, as well as the Zebdine barracks in the occupied Shebaa Farms. These hostilities are part of escalating tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border since October 8, 2023, following a barrage of rockets launched by Hezbollah towards Israel in solidarity with a Hamas attack the previous day. Israel has retaliated with heavy artillery targeting southern Lebanon, where Hezbollah maintains numerous weapons caches, tunnels, and bunkers.
