Moscow: The helicopter that crashed into the Hudson River in the United States on Thursday had undergone repairs last fall due to a technical malfunction, the New York Post reported, citing the country's Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The helicopter, a Bell 206L-4 LongRanger IV, was initially built in 2004 and had accumulated a total of 12,728 flight hours before it required repairs.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the repairs were necessitated by a fault in the helicopter's transmission system, which was identified in September of last year. The helicopter ultimately crashed into the Hudson River near Jersey City, across from Manhattan, at approximately 3:17 p.m. (19:17 GMT) on Thursday.
New York Mayor Eric Adams confirmed the tragic death of six individuals in the crash. Preliminary reports indicated that a family from Spain was aboard the helicopter at the time of the incident. Further investigation by the New York Post revealed, through law enforcement sources, that the victims were members of the family of Agustin Escobar, the head of the Spanish branch of Siemens.
