Heavy Rains Cause Extensive Damage in Banfora, Burkina Faso

BANFORA — The town of Banfora, located in Burkina Faso’s Cascades region, experienced significant disruptions and damage on Monday, July 29, 2024, following intense overnight rainfall that lasted until the afternoon.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the most affected area was the Tarfila district in sector 11 of Banfora, where flooding inundated several places, including Malicia Park. The park suffered severe damages with the swimming pool, bar, kitchen, and sheds submerged underwater, and part of the park’s wall collapsed. This inundation also led to paralysis of road traffic, notably disrupting the Banfora-Bobo axis on the RN7 for several hours. The General Director of Malicia Parc lamented the severe impact of the flood, stating that all constructions, materials, and equipment within the park were submerged, describing the loss as a significant financial blow to the investment.
