Windhoek: The Ministry of Health and Social Services has initiated an internal administrative investigation after a medical intern at Onandjokwe Intermediate Hospital was arrested in connection with an alleged rape incident. According to Namibia Press Agency, the ministry released a statement on Monday acknowledging the gravity of the allegations, which reportedly took place on July 18, 2026. Executive Director Penda Ithindi emphasized the seriousness with which the ministry is treating the situation, underscoring that such allegations starkly contradict the ethical standards and professional conduct expected from health professionals within the ministry. The Namibian Police are conducting a criminal investigation into the matter. Simultaneously, the ministry has launched its own internal administrative investigation and disciplinary proceedings in line with the Public Service Act, relevant regulations, and the ministry's disciplinary protocols. Ithindi reiterated the ministry's dedication to safeguarding patients, staff, and the public against sexual violence. Ithindi stated, "The ministry unequivocally condemns all forms of sexual violence and remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring a safe, respectful, and professional healthcare environment for patients, staff members, and the public." The ministry confirmed that its internal processes would proceed concurrently with the police investigation. As the investigation is now under the jurisdiction of law enforcement, the ministry has decided to withhold further comments to avoid interfering with the investigation and legal proceedings. Ithindi urged the public to allow the legal process to unfold without prejudice. The accused medical intern, Dennis Noa, aged 31, appeared in the Ondangwa Magistrate's Court on Monday. The State opposed bail due to the preliminary stage of the investigation, and the case was postponed as investigations continue.
