Washington: The head of an independent component of the U.S. Department of Justice that combats drugs and organized crime was fired on Friday, as announced by the official on his social media account.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Adam Cohen, director of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces, shared on LinkedIn that he was dismissed by the newly confirmed Deputy Attorney General (DAG) Todd Blanche, who previously served as President Donald Trump’s criminal defense attorney.
Cohen expressed his surprise at the decision, stating it was unexpected. He mentioned that he had been meeting with the Acting DAG every Tuesday evening, including just three days before his termination, to discuss important violent crime initiatives.
The dismissal occurred 18 hours after the distribution of a memorandum signed by the DAG, which Cohen had contributed to editing over the previous weekend. Despite the change in administration, it is common for career Justice Department officials to retain their positions
