Head of State Pays Tribute to General Alberto Neto

Luanda: President Joo Louren§o paid tribute to retired General Alberto Correia Neto, former Chief of the General Staff of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), on Saturday. General Neto passed away on the 11th of this month in Spain due to illness.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the tribute took place at the FAA Headquarters, where President Louren§o, accompanied by First Lady Ana Dias Louren§o, laid a wreath of flowers and bowed before the urn. He offered comfort to the family and signed the book of condolences. In his message, the President described General Neto as an honest man who dedicated his life to serving Angola.

President Louren§o highlighted General Neto’s imprisonment in the dungeons of Tarrafal, Cape Verde, for his involvement with clandestine groups opposing the Portuguese colonial rule before Angola’s Independence. He emphasized General Neto’s contributions across political, military, and diplomatic fronts, noting his roles in the former FAPLA, FAA, and Angolan diplomacy.

The President expressed his condolences to General Neto’s family and friends, acknowledging his long and dignified life.
