Head of State Highlights Angola-Algeria Strategic Cooperation

Algiers: Angolan President Joo Louren§o highlighted on Tuesday, in the Algerian Parliament, the level of cooperation between the two countries, with an impact on the definition of strategic policies linked to the commercialization of hydrocarbons, Angola's main export product.

According to Angola Press News Agency, in his speech, the Head of State emphasized that the construction of Sonangol benefited from the experience and support of Algeria, a country with which Angola maintains solid business cooperation through the link between the Angolan oil company and its Algerian counterpart, Sonatrach. He noted that this partnership places both companies at a leading level in the context of the energy transition in Africa.

Joo Louren§o stated that the shared past between the two countries has consolidated a relationship of friendship and cooperation that remains active. This path, he added, reinforces the shared responsibility to use the available tools to build a future based on solidarity, mutual support and the complementarity of capabilities.

In this context, the Angolan statesman advocated for the expansion of bilateral cooperation to strategic sectors such as transport, infrastructure, higher education, scientific research and technological development, considered fundamental for both nations' sustainable progress. In the economic field, he stated that Angola follows the Algerian orientation of valuing intra-African trade, prioritizing the acquisition of manufactured products on the continent.

Joo Louren§o considered that this approach reinforces the role of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) as an essential instrument for the creation of an African Common Market and as an engine of economic development for the continent. The Angolan Head of State also emphasized the commitment to training professionals and highlighted the Algerian initiative of providing 8,000 scholarships in several fields of knowledge, also benefiting young Angolans.

Joo Louren§o's intervention occurred after the signing, on Monday (11), of 11 legal instruments of cooperation between Angola and Algeria, in the areas of oil and gas, transport, mining, water resources, vocational training, postal services and telecoms, among other sectors.
