MOMBASA: The Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service, Felix Koskei, has called on African Schools of Government and Management Development Institutes (MDIs) to strengthen their collaborative efforts in capacity development. He emphasized the importance of building a skilled and adaptable public sector workforce that can effectively address the needs of the public service across the continent.
According to Kenya News Agency, Mr. Koskei highlighted that MDIs and Schools of Government are tasked with conducting research to bridge policy gaps and create evidence-based capacity-building programs. However, many institutions face challenges in fulfilling these roles due to limited resources. He asserted that increased collaboration could rejuvenate the research capabilities of MDIs, allowing them to better meet their mandates.
Mr. Koskei delivered these remarks during the closing ceremony of the 1st Africa Schools of Government Conference, hosted by the Kenya School of Government at its Mombasa Campus. The four-
day event gathered scholars, professionals, thought leaders, and managers from across Africa under the theme “Advancing Africa’s Public Service Excellence: United in Pursuit to Realize Capable Institutions and Transformed Leadership.”
The schools were urged to innovate, develop inclusive policies, and share knowledge. Mr. Koskei noted the urgency for innovative delivery methods to meet the expectations of an informed and demanding citizenry, highlighting the impact of digital transformation and global changes on the continent.
He stressed the interconnectedness and interdependence of African countries, advocating for policies that promote inclusivity and strengthen networks among governments, stakeholders, the private sector, donor agencies, and other key players to ensure inclusive development.
