Orodara – The Orodara International Clothing Fashion Festival (FITMOV), which commenced on December 6, concluded on the afternoon of Sunday, December 10, 2023, with young designer Harouna Nango winning the first prize in the best young designer category. This fourth edition of FITMOV highlighted the talents of emerging designers from the Hauts-Bassins region.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the festival serves as a platform for promoting young designers and facilitating experience sharing among textile and clothing professionals. The 2023 edition, themed “Social Cohesion and Development,” featured a variety of events including exhibitions, panels, fashion shows, and training sessions. The event attracted participation from local administrative, customary, and religious authorities, as well as key figures from the textile industry and a significant delegation from Sikasso, Mali.
Adama Traoré emphasized the relevance of the festival’s theme, especially considering the challenging security context in the country. He highlighted the role of cultural actors in contributing to the pursuit of peace and social cohesion. FITMOV is recognized as an essential venue for training and cultural exchange in the fields of textiles and fashion.
Adama Ballo, the fourth deputy mayor of the city of Sikasso, praised FITMOV, stating that such an event was necessary and valuable. Laurencia Napon, the regional director in charge of youth for Hauts-Bassins, expressed support for such initiatives that stimulate socio-economic development at the grassroots level.
Emmanuel Konaté, President of the special delegation from Orodara, and Saïdou Sakira, the High Commissioner of the Kénédougou province, both applauded the festival for showcasing the skills of local artisans.
Throughout the four days of the festival, the population of Orodara was immersed in the vibrant world of FITMOV. The closing ceremony saw Harouna Nango being honored as the youngest best designer of the 2023 edition, receiving a sewing machine and a certificate from the Organizing Committee.
Event promoter Adama Traoré expressed satisfaction with the successful conduct of the festival and extended his gratitude to all the partners who supported the event.
