Hardap to Use Green Hydrogen Agenda to Propel Socio-Economic Development: McNab

Mariental: Hardap Governor Riaan McNab has reaffirmed his commitment to using the country's Green Hydrogen agenda as a tool to propel long-awaited socio-economic development in the region.

According to Namibia Press Agency, McNab, during his State of the Region Address (SORA) in Mariental on Wednesday, emphasized that Green Hydrogen presents a solution to address enduring issues in the Hardap region, including unemployment, poverty, drought, and insufficient service delivery. He highlighted the potential of Green Hydrogen to stimulate other sectors of the economy, such as logistics, agriculture, and sustainable manufacturing, which could alleviate the challenges faced by the region's communities.

McNab urged local and regional leaders to collaborate to ensure that the benefits of the Green Hydrogen industry reach all the youth in the region. He stressed the importance of equipping the youth with the skills needed to participate in this growing sector, thereby enhancing their economic opportunities.

In a bid to empower young people between the ages of 18 to 35, McNab encouraged them to apply for the Youth for Green Hydrogen scholarship, which was launched in Gibeon on 02 July. The application process, which began on 07 July, will conclude on 18 July this year. He informed that the scholarship forms are available at the Governor's office and all constituency offices in the Hardap region. Outreach teams from the Southern African Science Service Centre for Climate Change and Adaptive Land Management (SASSCAL) and the Namibia Students Financial Assistance Fund (NSFAF) are actively providing information on the application process throughout the region.

Governor McNab reiterated the leadership's commitment to achieving the theme 'Unity in Diversity, Natural Resources Beneficiation and Youth Empowerment for Sustainable Development' through the Swapo Party Manifesto Implementation Plan. He underscored the necessity of adopting innovative approaches to realize the ambitious goals set forth in their Manifesto, emphasizing that poverty eradication is a feasible objective for the region.
