Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Commander for the Hardap Region:amibian Police Force (NamPol) Commander for the Hardap Region, Sydney Philander, has announced that 182 members will be deployed to ensure security and maintain order during the elections on Wednesday.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the deployment plan includes officers assigned to polling stations as well as others tasked with regular crime prevention duties across the region. In an interview with Nampa on Monday, Philander stated that the police are ready to manage both election-related operations and normal law enforcement. “The allocation of personnel aims to create a secure environment for voters while ensuring that regular policing activities are not disrupted,” he explained.
He stated that the region has received six additional vehicles from the inspector general’s office to support law enforcement efforts. These vehicles have been dispatched to strategic places such as Aranos, Gochas, Klein Aub, Gibeon, Mariental, and the infrastruct
ure protection division. “The new resources are intended to enhance mobility and response capabilities,” he said.
Philander emphasised the need of having police officers present at polling locations to avoid disruptions and for the safety of voters and election officials. Officers stationed at these locations will collaborate closely with election officials to handle any security concerns, he stated. He noted that the police deployment in the region is intended to serve both urban and rural security concerns, and that by allocating resources to critical sites, the police hope to maintain peace during the election period.
“The addition of new vehicles is expected to increase the regional police force’s operational capacity. These resources are part of larger efforts to strengthen law enforcement and ensure the smooth operation of the electoral process,” he stated.
