Handball: Angola Faces Crucial Match After Loss to Brazil in World Championship

Luanda: The Angolan senior women's handball team faced a setback as they lost to Brazil, 26-32, in the ongoing 27th World Championship. This result has delayed Angola's qualification for the quarterfinals, which will now depend on the outcome of their final match in the round of 16.

According to Angola Press News Agency, Angola was already trailing at halftime with a score of 15-18. The team is now set to face Sweden on Sunday at 6:30 p.m., a match that is critical for their progression in the tournament.

Helana Paulo from Angola emerged as the top scorer of the match with nine goals. In contrast, Bruna de Paula of Brazil was named the most valuable player (MVP) of the match, contributing seven goals to Brazil's victory. Brazil has secured their spot in the quarterfinals with two consecutive wins, having also defeated South Korea 35-25 in their opening match.

The Angolan women's team began their campaign with a win against the Czech Republic, 28-25. In the upcoming final match of the round of 16, Brazil, the 2013 champions, will face Norway, while Angola must win their match against Sweden to avoid relegation to the qualifying rounds.

During the group stage, Angola showcased strong performances, defeating Kazakhstan 38-20 and South Korea 34-23, although they suffered a loss against Norway, 19-31. In the regular season, Brazil demonstrated their strength by defeating Cuba 41-20 and securing victories over the Czech Republic 28-22 and Sweden 31-27.
