Katima mulilo: The Commissioner-General of the Namibian Correctional Service (NCS), Raphael Tuhafeni Hamunyela, recently visited the Katima Mulilo Correctional Facility at Katima Farm in the Zambezi Region to assess the progress of the new irrigation system installation. Seven centre-pivot irrigation systems have been installed and are awaiting connection.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Hamunyela stated, "Centre pivots were installed, and we are just waiting for the connection of the water. All pipes are connected except for the main pipe coming from the river to the fields, which was delayed due to authorisation needed by service providers to cross the road." The commissioner-general indicated that the goal is to have the entire installation completed by the end of March or early April of this year.
Hamunyela also held an engagement with staff members at the Katima Mulilo Correctional Facility on Thursday, where he urged them to strive for teamwork so that the organisation could prosper. "Teaming up, as opposed to working in isolation, drives the organisation to success and collective victory," he said.
Hamunyela was expected to travel to the Divundu Correctional Facility to assess the maize plantation and engage with the correctional staff members on Friday. Katima Farm covers 830 hectares and is envisaged to house NCS offices, multiple correctional rehabilitation facilities and farming units, among other developments.
