Hamas Issues Urgent Appeal for Displaced Gazans as Winter Approaches

Gaza City – On Saturday, the Hamas-run Gaza government media office issued a pressing humanitarian appeal to assist two million displaced individuals in the Gaza Strip as winter looms. The appeal emphasized the urgent need for aid due to worsening weather conditions and deteriorating living facilities.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the media office detailed that 543 shelter and displacement centers are currently operating in Gaza, where residents have been forced to leave their homes and neighborhoods due to Israeli military actions, which the statement described as a violation of international law. The statement highlighted that 74 percent of the tents housing displaced persons have become unusable, with 100,000 out of 135,000 tents urgently needing replacement. These tents, primarily constructed from wood, nylon, and fabric, have succumbed to the harsh climatic conditions and constant exposure to the sun, rendering them completely out of service.

The government statement calls on the international community and relevant organizations to provide immediate relief and support, stressing the dire circumstances faced by the displaced population. This humanitarian crisis follows a large-scale offensive launched by Israel against Hamas in the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, which resulted in significant casualties and hostage situations, escalating the longstanding conflict in the region.
