HAIKOU—Following last month’s devastating impact by Super Typhoon Yagi, Hainan’s tourism industry has remarkably bounced back as the National Day holiday witnessed bustling scenes and a series of cultural events that reinvigorated the local economy and spirit.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the revival was particularly evident on Qilou old street in Haikou, the capital of south China’s Hainan Province, where a fashion show spotlighting intangible cultural heritage enthralled tourists with vibrant music and lighting displays. The event showcased the traditional costumes of ethnic minorities, drawing praise from visitors like Chen Nan, a tourist from Shenzhen. After visiting Sanya, another popular destination in Hainan, Chen and her partner were delighted by the unexpected cultural performance in Haikou, noting that the atmospheric charm of Qilou old street enriched their holiday experience.
The week-long celebrations saw Qilou old street teeming with tourists who engaged in shopping, sampled local delicacies, and enjoyed various street performances, creating a festive atmosphere across the city. This resurgence of tourism activity serves as a testament to the province’s rapid recovery efforts which enabled a full resumption of operations before the holiday season.
Elsewhere in Hainan, the Hainan Ocean Paradise Resort in Lingshui Li Autonomous County captivated visitors with nightly fireworks and drone displays. Liu Xiao’ou, president of the resort, highlighted the special significance of this year’s holiday following the typhoon disaster. The resort focused on catering to the travel needs of local residents by offering discounted tickets, allowing them to partake in the holiday festivities extensively.
Additionally, more than 70 cultural performances and sports events were launched across Hainan to attract tourists. On Wuzhizhou Island in Sanya, the excitement was palpable at the pier, where tourists like Zhang Yunqi from Jilin Province enjoyed a range of water sports, including jet skiing and parasailing, further enhancing the festive mood and tourist satisfaction.
