Guiriko: Three years after the implementation of the Patriotic Support Fund (FSP), the Burkinabe government met with local populations to review the mobilization and use of resources. The meeting in the Guiriko region took place on Saturday, March 7, 2026, in Bobo-Dioulasso.
According to Burkina Information Agency, these regional accountability conferences are initiatives of the Burkinabe government that aim to inform the population about the collection and use of resources mobilized under the Patriotic Support Fund, established to support the peace effort in Burkina Faso.
According to data presented during the meeting, nearly 500 billion CFA francs were mobilized by the Burkinabe people between 2023 and 2025.
According to the Director General of Communication and Media, Yirmal¨ Frdric Som, the main speaker, these resources have notably enabled the complete support of the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP), the acquisition of individual and collective equipment for the forces engaged in the fight against insecurity, as well as the purchase of vehicles and public works equipment for the benefit of the Faso Mªbo Agency.
The first exercise of its kind in the region, this meeting provided a framework for direct exchanges between FSP actors and the populations.
Participants were thus able to raise their concerns, obtain clarifications on the management of the fund and formulate recommendations to strengthen its effectiveness.
'The people were very pleased to know that we came to them to present the report. However, they regretted that it took a little while. We reassured them that the exercise is done quarterly during the steering committee chaired by the Prime Minister, and the report is given through the media,' explained Yirmal¨ Frdric Som.
He also welcomed the proposals put forward by the participants, particularly those aimed at identifying new sources of mobilization to strengthen the Patriotic Support Fund, given its importance for the country's social development.
The accountability conference of the Patriotic Support Fund in Guiriko was held simultaneously with the one organized in the Djoro region, in Gaoua.
Other similar meetings are planned in the coming weeks in several regions of the country, with the aim of better informing the public about the management and impact of this fund.
