Bobo-dioulasso: The Cascades K©n©dougou South-West Association (CK-SO Bobo) hosted the inaugural 'Joking Kinship Fair' at the SONABEL Club in Bobo-Dioulasso on Sunday, June 28, 2026. This cultural initiative seeks to enhance social cohesion, fraternity, and national solidarity amidst a challenging security and social climate.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the event, themed around sharing, united various communities like the Dagaras, Lobis, Senufo, and Karaboros to celebrate the unique ancestral cultural heritage of Burkina Faso. The program highlighted the region's cultural wealth through artistic performances, traditional troupe shows, and a bustling market street.
Lamine Kon©, representing His Majesty the Chief of the Karaborola Canton, commended the initiative as a crucial step in addressing current challenges. "This is certainly one of the cornerstones at our level, especially given the current context, that can help promote cohesion and solidarity among the sons and daughters of this country," he noted.
Kon© further emphasized the event's importance, stating, "it is therefore within this framework that we find ourselves on the initiative of the CK-SO association. In other words, we are here to commune in solidarity and fraternity with our little slaves of the Djoro region."
C©dric Dabir©, the Chairman of the organizing committee, highlighted that the first edition signifies a pivotal moment for the organization. After existing on social media for nearly a decade and formally establishing in 2020, the association aims to revive a tradition that was diminishing in prominence.
He explained, "We are seeing that nowadays, especially among the younger generation, the joker relationship has taken a hit. We who have benefited from this relationship feel it is our duty to carry out activities to restore the image of the joker relationship, which has been somewhat tarnished."
Naawinb©gur© Som©, the event's patron, underscored the peaceful potential of this cultural practice. He stated that the Legrata association, which advocates for preserving cultural and ancestral values, fully supports such initiatives. "The purpose of this activity is to celebrate joking kinship, which is an important part of our Burkinab¨ culture. It allows us to resolve many problems, defuse and avoid many conflicts," he emphasized.
With the success of this first edition, the CK-SO association aims to establish this cultural event as a lasting tradition in the Guiriko region. For the organizers, reviving this valuable heritage is crucial for constructing a united, resilient nation deeply rooted in its values of peace.
