Guiriko Region Reaffirms National Commitment at Flag Raising Ceremony


Bobo-dioulasso: Daniel Ouezzin Coulibaly Square, located at the roundabout of the central town hall of Bobo-Dioulasso, hosted the regional ceremony for raising the national colors, organized by the Commune and coupled, exceptionally, with the traditional communal ceremony of the first Wednesday of the month. In a solemn atmosphere, administrative, customary and religious authorities, defense and security forces as well as the vital forces of the Guiriko region proceeded to raise the national flag, reaffirming their unwavering commitment to the values of sovereignty, dignity, and unity of Burkina Faso.



According to Burkina Information Agency, the ceremony was presided over by the Governor of the Guiriko region, Mariama KONATE/GNANOU, in the presence of members of the Government, including the Minister of Health, Robert Lucien Jean-Claude KARGOUGOU, and the Minister of Energy, Mines and Quarries, Yacouba Zabre GOUBA. The Governor of the region took the opportunity to officially launch the commemorative activities for March 8, 2026. She invited the women of Guiriko to mobilize for a responsible and exemplary celebration, while urging them to fully embrace the established program of activities to ensure its success.



She also praised the commitment of the region’s key stakeholders to the national solidarity campaign “D¨m¨-Sira.” Thanks to their contributions, Guiriko ranked second nationally, an achievement she described as “the fruit of a shared spirit of solidarity.”



The ceremony also featured the presentation of the trophy for the 6th prize for endogenous development initiatives, awarded to the Union of Women Fighters of the region. This distinction recognizes the dynamism of women and their leading role in local development.



Speaking at the event, the President of the Special Municipal Delegation, Laurent K. KONTOGOM, emphasized its civic significance. He declared, “The raising of the colors is not a mere administrative ritual; it is a moment of collective renewal, a true patriotic rejuvenation.” Referring to an international context marked by “hegemonic tendencies and logics of domination,” he affirmed that “Burkina Faso remains standing, faithful to its ideal of freedom and its quest for full and complete sovereignty,” before adding: “Faced with these headwinds, our response remains unity, resilience, and national solidarity.”
