Guiriko: Christians and Muslims Pray for Peace and Social Cohesion

Guiriko: The Defense and Security Forces (FDS), administrative, customary and religious authorities, as well as the widows and orphans of the FDS who fell on the front, met this Friday, March 6, 2026, at the Place de la R©volution in the Ouezzin Coulibaly camp of Bobo-Dioulasso for a collective breaking of the fast under the sign of fraternity, solidarity and social cohesion.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the event was initiated by the commander of the second military region, Lieutenant-Colonel Lassan Porgo, and brought together several components of society in a spirit of sharing and prayer for peace in Burkina Faso. The ceremony was held in the presence of the governor of the Guiriko region, Ms. Mariama Konat/Gnanou, the Defense and Security Forces, the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP), as well as many religious and traditional leaders who came to support this initiative of communion and unity in the city of Sya.

Speaking at the event, the governor of the Guiriko region praised the strong mobilization around this activity, reflecting the collective commitment to peace. "My satisfaction is all about the turnout. I am proud of the team from the Guiriko region. My thanks to all those who made the trip this evening," she said. She also offered a special thought for the widows of the Defense and Security Forces who fell in combat. According to her, even though they no longer have their husbands by their side, they can count on national solidarity. "Even though the widows do not have their husbands with them, they have found a husband, a brother, a sister in each of you tonight," she emphasized.

Ms. Konat/Gnanou also invited the people to cultivate unity and to abandon divisive rhetoric. 'Solidarity must not stop at a gesture. We must translate it into our daily actions and avoid messages that tend to divide us,' she urged, while offering prayers that the invocations made during the fast would be answered and that lasting peace would return to Burkina Faso.

For the commander of the second military region, Lieutenant-Colonel Lassan Porgo, this collective break reflects the vision of the Burkinabe authorities based on unity and love of neighbor. "Tonight, we are gathered with all faiths, the entire population, the FDS and the VDP, widows and orphans for a collective break. The spirit behind it, as instructed by our comrade Captain Ibrahim Traor, is unity, solidarity and love of neighbor," he said.

According to him, it is through this unity and solidarity that Burkina Faso will remain standing and respected in the world. The meeting concluded with prayers and blessings offered by religious leaders for peace, security and the strengthening of social cohesion in Burkina Faso.
