Guiriko: The Federation of Tourism Actors of the Guiriko region (FAT-RG) has concluded its training project in local gastronomy and hotel maintenance, awarding certificates to 60 vulnerable women and girls from the region. This marks a significant step towards strengthening their socio-economic capacities.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the beneficiaries of this project include internally displaced persons (IDPs), dependents of the Defense and Security Forces (FDS), and Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP). The initiative is designed to promote professional integration and empowerment, enabling these women to escape vulnerable situations.
Mariam Ou©draogo, representing the president of the Hauts-Bassins Regional Council, urged the graduates to leverage their newly acquired skills to build a better future. She highlighted the importance of local consumption and self-employment, emphasizing the demand for qualified personnel in the hotel industry. Ou©draogo encouraged the beneficiaries to seize this opportunity and not to rest on their laurels.
Moussa Rock Fofana, president of FAT-RG, noted that the training began on February 27, 2026, addressing the need for skilled workers in the hospitality and restaurant sectors. He emphasized the potential for these women to create jobs, join hotel establishments, and contribute to reducing unemployment by becoming promoters who can recruit others.
Aboubacar Hebi©, representing the Director General of the Burkina Faso Fund for Economic and Social Development (FBDES), highlighted that this initiative aligns with national policies aimed at empowering vulnerable groups. He pointed out that the training offers solutions for women affected by insecurity, providing them with opportunities in tourism and culture.
No©lie Kanziomo, speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, expressed gratitude to the authorities, the Cultural and Tourism Development Fund (FDCT), the trainers, and partners for their support. She assured that the graduates are committed to using their skills for personal empowerment and local development.
The project, launched on February 17, 2026, seeks to transform the Guiriko region into an attractive, competitive, and inclusive tourist destination, driven by professional and dynamic actors.
