Guinea: The army reaffirms its loyalty to Mamadi Doumbouya after his departure on leave and calls on Guineans to remain calm: The Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Guinea-Conakry, General Ibrahima Sory Bangoura, in a statement read on national television on the evening of Monday, August 3, 2026, reaffirmed the army's loyalty to President Mamadi Doumbouya following his departure on leave to Greece. He also reassured the Guinean people of the continuity of the state and the stability of the country.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Chief of Staff, speaking on behalf of all the defense and security forces, affirmed the "constant fidelity" and "unwavering loyalty" of the armed forces to the President of the Republic, Mamadi Doumbouya, as well as to the institutions of the Republic and the people of Guinea.

In this statement, the defense and security forces reiterated their commitment to continue the process of establishing the institutions of the Republic, in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution. They also reaffirmed their determination to support the actions to rebuild the State, believing that their effects are already perceptible to the people.

General Ibrahima Sory Bangoura assured that the defense and security forces will remain fully mobilized to guarantee internal stability and preserve the integrity of the national territory, two conditions which he considers essential to the continuation of the development dynamic undertaken in the country. "Consequently, the defense and security forces will use all means necessary to accomplish their sovereign missions," the statement emphasized.

In response to rumors and information circulating on social media during the President's leave, the General Staff of the Armed Forces urged citizens not to give in to disinformation and to calmly continue their daily activities. The statement concluded with a message of courtesy addressed to the President of the Republic, wishing him and his family a pleasant annual holiday.

This statement from the Chief of Staff came a few hours after the official announcement of President Mamadi Doumbouya's departure for his annual leave in Greece.
