Tsumeb: Regional councillor of the Guinas Constituency in the Oshikoto Region, Elias ‘Barney’ Marthinu, passed away on Monday in a hospital in Tsumeb at the age of 51.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Oshikoto Governor Penda Ya Ndakolo confirmed Marthinu’s passing and reminisced about his dependable nature and effective representation in the regional council. “Marthinu was a man of his word and delivered very well. I used to give him the responsibility to represent me in various meetings,” said Governor Ya Ndakolo. He also extended his condolences to Marthinu’s family, friends, colleagues, and the residents of the Oshikoto Region.
Marthinu had a notable political career, initially serving as a Swapo party district coordinator for Guinas before being elected as a councillor in 2020. He was also a member of the Oshikoto Regional Council’s management committee. His death marks a significant loss for the community and his contributions to local governance are remembered fondly.
