GUELWONGO — On Saturday, the residents of Guelwongo in the commune of Ziou came together in a significant community effort to repair the main road that spans approximately 5 kilometers from their village to the Ghana border. This road, crucial for local connectivity and commerce, had suffered considerable damage due to the rainy season.
According to Burkina Information Agency, president of the Yiir Despite de Guélwongo association and organizer of the repair initiative, the effort was a testament to the community’s resolve, inspired by the President of Faso’s call to action for national improvement. Residents of all ages, including the elderly, young people, and local religious and customary authorities, started work early at 8 a.m., using a variety of tools and vehicles to restore the road. This included filling potholes with aggregates and smoothing out the surface, activities that extended from the main road to a secondary route leading from the central market to the livestock market.
The broad participation and enthusiasm were particularly noted by Sia, who emphasized the symbolic and practical importance of this self-help endeavor. The community’s elders played a significant role by encouraging the youth and participating actively in the labor. The day began with a blessing from the customary authorities, highlighting the cultural significance of the collective effort.
Narcisse Sia has announced another scheduled date to continue the repairs, underscoring the ongoing commitment of Guelwongo’s residents to maintain and improve their infrastructure, ensuring better accessibility and mobility for all villagers.
