Islamabad: Greening education systems is essential for empowering youth and building a climate-resilient society in Pakistan, stated Romina Khurshid Alam, the coordinator to the Pakistani prime minister on climate change and environmental coordination. Alam emphasized the importance of equipping the next generation with the necessary knowledge, skills, and values to address climate change during a seminar on green education held on Monday.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Alam highlighted the need for nations and institutions to prioritize investment in greening education. She pointed out that as a nation highly vulnerable to climate change, Pakistan acknowledges the transformative power of education in tackling climate challenges. Alam stressed the importance of preparing future leaders to approach these challenges with innovation, compassion, and resilience, affirming Pakistan’s commitment to this vision and readiness for further collaboration.

Alam also detailed Pakistan’s progress in integrating clima
te education into the national curriculum. From primary to university levels, educational modules have been developed to build climate awareness, focusing on the science of climate change, its impacts, and actionable solutions. These efforts aim to instill a sense of environmental responsibility in students.

In addition, Alam mentioned that teachers across Pakistan are being trained to deliver climate education effectively. Community-based programs have also been introduced to raise broader awareness among the general population.
