Grand African Run in Washington D.C. to Unite Ethiopian Diaspora Under Theme of Togetherness

WASHINGTON D.C. — The Grand African Run, now in its 6th edition, is set to bring together the Ethiopian diaspora in Washington D.C. on October 12, 2024, under the theme “Togetherness is Better,” fostering cultural unity and celebration among Ethiopians living abroad.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, Athletics Federation President Derartu Tulu emphasized the event’s role in strengthening solidarity among the Ethiopian community overseas. The annual 5km family fun run is not only a sports event but also a cultural gathering that allows Ethiopians and their families to connect with their heritage and share it with their children. Tulu expressed her hope for a vibrant celebration and encouraged all Ethiopians abroad to participate in the upcoming event.

Gashaw Abaza, the Director General of the Grand African Run, highlighted the run’s significance as a platform for Ethiopians and all Africans to reconnect with their roots and support charitable causes. Describing the event as a joyous homecoming for many in the Ethiopian diaspora, Abaza also announced an exciting addition to this year’s run—a lottery draw for participants with the chance to win a brand new 2024 Toyota Corolla.

Registration for the Grand African Run is now open, welcoming not only the Ethiopian diaspora but also the broader African community. Interested participants can register online at www.africanrun.com.
