Poa: A meeting to raise awareness among producers about the collection of cereals at farmgate prices, for the 2024-2025 agricultural campaign, was held on Tuesday in the town hall of Poa, AIB observed. The meeting was chaired by the President of the special delegation (PDS) of the commune of Poa, Ms. Romaine Sawadogo, in the presence of His Majesty Naba Kaongo, chief of Poa, representatives of the departmental service of Agriculture as well as members of the special delegation.
According to Burkina Information Agency, producers were informed of the Burkinabe government's decision authorizing the National Food Security Stock Management Company (SONAGESS) to collect cereals at farmgate prices. The crops concerned include millet, maize, sorghum, rice, and cowpeas, with the aim of building up sovereignty reserves.
The technical services highlighted that this initiative aims to guarantee a remunerative price for producers, reduce post-harvest losses, and strengthen food security. Producers were encouraged to take ownership of the collection mechanism put in place by the authorities.
