Nairobi: The government has unveiled a new initiative aimed at recruiting skilled youth from each of the 47 counties for employment opportunities abroad. Technical, Vocational Education, and Training (TVET) Principal Secretary, Dr. Esther Muoria, shared that the recruitment effort is a collaboration with the Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection, Dr. Alfred Mutua, targeting job placements in Qatar. The recruitment will occur in selected TVET institutions and at County Headquarters.
According to Kenya News Agency, Dr. Muoria disclosed that the recruitment process will commence on November 20, 2024, in Machakos, followed by Makueni on November 21, and Kitui on November 22. The initiative will then proceed to other counties, including Nakuru and Baringo. Speaking at the Masinga Technical and Vocational College in Machakos, Dr. Muoria urged skilled youth to participate in the recruitment process at the designated TVET institutions.
Dr. Muoria highlighted the significance of skill acquisition among
the youth, emphasizing its role in driving industrialization and enhancing the country’s economic growth. She noted the global demand for skilled labor, stating that with investments ready in terms of money, machinery, and market, the missing link remains a skilled workforce.
She encouraged young people to enroll in TVET institutions across the country, asserting that they are equipped to provide the necessary skills for a competitive job market. The announcement comes in the wake of a media briefing by CS Labour Dr. Mutua in Kisumu, where he advised the youth to prepare by bringing essential documents such as National IDs for the recruitment drive.
Dr. Mutua assured that Certificates of Good Conduct will be issued during the recruitment, and immigration officials will be present to facilitate on-site passport applications, ensuring a streamlined process for prospective candidates.
