Zambezi: Governor Dorothy Kabula has called on elected councillors to deliver essential services to their communities. Kabula was speaking at Lubuta polling station in the Judea Lyabboloma Constituency in the Zambezi Region, shortly after casting her vote in the Regional Councils and Local Authorities Elections.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the governor emphasized the importance of councillors prioritizing the needs of the people who voted for them. "The councillor who wins these elections must deliver services to the people because they are there for the people, not for themselves. People voted for them simply because they want to see services," she stated.
By 13h00, over 90 eligible voters had cast their ballots, as noted by presiding officer Doreen Simasiku. Linda Nalisa, a first-time voter, expressed her hopes that the new councillor would address critical issues such as water scarcity and high unemployment in the constituency. Another first-time voter, Golo Tubatiye, shared similar expectations for change.
Senior citizen Zebedia Kawana conveyed his gratitude for participating in the voting process, hoping for positive developments in the area. "There's no development here, that's why I decided to come and vote so that my vote can count," he commented.
The Judea Lyabboloma Constituency, with over 3,000 registered voters, presents a competitive race. Incumbent independent candidate Humphrey Divai is up against two other independent candidates, Morven Mukwata and Bornbright Musomi. Additionally, Chrispin Sifu of the National Democratic Party and Vincent Sinalumbu of the Swapo Party are contesting for the seat.
