Governor Uerikua Highlights Infrastructural Progress in Otjozondjupa State of the Region Address


OTJIWARONGO – In the recent State of the Region Address (SORA), Governor James Uerikua detailed significant infrastructural developments across Otjozondjupa’s seven constituencies, underscoring advancements in both rural and urban areas.



According to Namibia Press Agency, Governor Uerikua’s presentation at a special council meeting of the Otjozondjupa Regional Council, the government’s capital projects have led to the construction and renovation of multiple police stations and housing facilities for officers throughout the region. Notable improvements include the renovations at the Mangetti Dune Health Centre, Gam clinic, and the nurses’ home at Ovitoto clinic, which Uerikua commended. The address also highlighted the success of the government’s drought relief programme, which has supported nearly 16,000 families in rural areas and over 10,300 individuals in informal urban settlements.



Governor Uerikua expressed satisfaction with the educational sector’s progress, specifically noting the establishment of two new schools in Otjiwarongo and the construction of 42 new classrooms in several towns including Okahandja and Otavi. In Grootfontein, the municipality has constructed 65 social houses, facilitating the relocation of residents and investing over N.dollars 4 million in the project. The governor also praised the efforts to increase water accessibility, mentioning the drilling of additional boreholes in various towns such as Otjiwarongo and Tsumkwe, emphasizing the need to extend these efforts to other areas with water scarcity issues.



The address was attended by local government officials, community members, and traditional leaders, reflecting a broad interest in the region’s ongoing development initiatives.
