Governor Somdo Oversees Livestock Vaccination Campaign in Zano

Nakamb©: The governor of the Nakamb© region, Yiy© Abraham Somdo, conducted a field visit on Wednesday to Zano, a village in the commune of Tenkodogo, in the Boulgou province, as part of monitoring the vaccination campaign against priority animal diseases and promoting agropastoral production. The objective was to assess the progress of activities and strengthen the mobilization of local stakeholders.

According to Burkina Information Agency, in Zano, Governor Yiy© Abraham Somdo participated in the animal vaccination campaign by personally vaccinating sheep and cattle alongside the technical team deployed in the field. Through this gesture, he aimed to encourage livestock farmers and emphasize the importance placed on livestock health in the region.

On site, the governor met with members of the Village Development Council (VDC), the village chief, and the livestock farmers mobilized for the occasion. He expressed his satisfaction with the enthusiasm and support shown by the farmers for the campaign, reiterating that vaccination is an essential means of protecting livestock and preventing animal diseases.

He commended the work of the vaccination team and the Nakamb© Regional Directorate of Agriculture, Animal Resources, and Fisheries, which was in charge of leading the operation. The governor urged livestock farmers to continue raising awareness among their peers so that all herds would be vaccinated, a necessary condition to limit the risk of contagion.

Addressing the issue of social cohesion, Mr. Somdo urged livestock farmers to respect grazing areas and transhumance corridors. He indicated that this approach helps prevent conflicts between farmers and herders and ensures peaceful coexistence, which is conducive to the development of agropastoral activities.

Continuing his visit to the commune of Tenkodogo, the governor went to the Gourgou dam, which has a capacity of over two million cubic meters. Downstream from this structure, a development zone of over 30 hectares is planned, of which 10 hectares have already been developed and allocated to women, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) in the area.

At the site, Governor Somdo encouraged farmers to intensify the development of existing infrastructure. He invited men to join women in cultivating the developed areas in order to contribute to increased agricultural production and the achievement of food self-sufficiency.

At the end of the visit, the governor of Nakamb© praised the efforts of local stakeholders and reaffirmed the commitment of regional authorities to support all initiatives aimed at strengthening the resilience of populations and promoting the development of the agropastoral sector in the region.
