Governor of Nando Region Supports Women Market Gardeners in Sapouy

Sourou: The governor of the Nando region encourages women market gardeners in sector 4. On the sidelines of the celebration of International Women's Day, the governor of the Nando region, Adama Jean Yves B©r©, visited the market garden in sector 4 of the town of Sapouy, which is run by more than 120 women on an area of about 5 hectares. This market garden area is full of several crops, including cabbage, lettuce, onion, and eggplant, grown by women to improve their income and contribute to local food security.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Governor Adama Jean Yves B©r© stated that this visit is part of the dynamic of changing the paradigm in the celebration of March 8, as advocated by the highest authorities of the country, by emphasizing concrete actions in favor of the economic empowerment of women. The visit allowed the regional authority to appreciate more closely the work done by these women, to gather their concerns, and to encourage them to continue their efforts.

The women, who were highly mobilized for the occasion, welcomed the visit of the governor and his delegation. During the meeting, they outlined several difficulties they face, including the water shortage starting in March, linked to the drying up of the dam, which constitutes their main source of supply, as well as the recurring breakdowns of the solar panels powering the well.

In response to these concerns, Governor Adama Jean Yves B©r© listened attentively and reassured the women of his willingness to examine ways and means to find solutions. He also urged them to cultivate unity and solidarity, while prioritizing consultation whenever difficulties arise. At the end of the visit, the governor distributed gardening equipment to the women to support their market gardening activities and strengthen their production capacity.
