Governor of Central-Eastern Burkina Faso Honors Defense Forces on Independence Day

TENKODOGO: The Governor of the Center-East region of Burkina Faso, Colonel Aboudou Karim Lamizana, paid tribute to the nation’s fighting forces during the 64th anniversary celebrations of Burkina Faso’s independence. The ceremony, held at the High Commission in Tenkodogo, was attended by residents from the provinces of Boulgou, Kouritenga, and Koulpélogo, who expressed their continued support for the national transition efforts.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Colonel Lamizana commended the efforts of those engaged in the national defense, both on the front lines and in supportive roles. He emphasized the significance of the independence day as a time for collective reflection on real independence and the promotion of Burkina Faso’s influence both within Africa and internationally.

The occasion also saw the decoration of 85 individuals from various sectors, including public, private, and civil society, in recognition of their services to the nation. Honorees received distinctions in several categor
ies, such as Officer of the Order of the Stallion, Order of Merit, and Medal of Honor of local authorities.

Colonel Lamizana encouraged the recipients to continue their contributions to peace efforts and urged the public to remain united and supportive of the Defense Forces and Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland. He expressed confidence that such unity and determination would enable the nation to overcome terrorism-related challenges.
