Banfora: The Governor of the Cascades region, Florent Badabouè Bazié, visited several farms in the communes of Oueleni and Kankalaba on Monday as part of the 2024-2025 wet agricultural campaign. His visit aimed to encourage local producers and assess the progress made under the agro-sylvo-pastoral offensive launched by the government.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the region’s producers have demonstrated a strong commitment to achieving the government’s objectives of food self-sufficiency and sovereignty. He emphasized the importance of reducing rice imports, which cost the country billions of CFA francs each year, by developing local production. The Cascades region, known for its water resources, is central to the plan to increase rice production through the development of lowland areas.
The Regional Director of Agriculture, Souobou Minyemba, confirmed that 10,500 hectares of land have been developed as part of the agro-sylvo-pastoral offensive. Minyemba expressed confidence that the region’s agricultural goals would be achieved, with crops showing promising growth.
